SunRype Tri Kids Triathlon Niagara

Kids in Niagara paid a visit to the Sun Rype Tri-Kids Triathlon on Sunday at Ridley College. The weather was perfect, maybe a little hot toward the afternoon, but the kids seemed to enjoy every minute.

Registration was sold out for the 2-day event. The mission statement was clear 'Complete not Compete' and the kids did complete the three events with smiles of well-earned pride as they crossed the finish line.

There was a 3 - 5 year old category, trikes and training wheels all set up above for the bike portion of the race. Parents were allowed to swim with their child, bike and run them across the finish line.

From six years old you had to compete alone...no parents allowed in the transition area made for fast and easy ins and outs! Volunteers and Race Crew were on hand to tie shoes, put socks on and unclip bike helmets. Every single one of them were amazing!

The cycling portion was on a closed circuit, safe from cars, so the kids could just ride and not worry about stopping! The course was 1.5 km with volunteers guiding the way offering encouragement at every step.

Runners of different ages had different lengths of running to complete.

The Finish Line!

The coveted medals, that simply told each child "They Did It!"

All in all...it was a great event. Setting a great example to kids by promoting healthy eating, exercise, and giving them a boat load of self-confidence.

Congrats Tri-Kids and Sun Rype for a great 2013 event.
