Hike Niagara Glen
Satuday May 26th, 2013

The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC), in partnership with the Friends of the Niagara Glen, are pleased to announce a “Spring in the Niagara Glen” nature program featuring guided hiking tours on Saturday, May 26.
The tours will begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and visitors are invited to join the guided hikes into the magnificent Niagara Glen to search for blooms of elusive rare and unique spring wildflowers (ephemerals) along with the return of local birds and other wildlife. Spring ephemerals, such as Red and White Trilliums, Wild Columbine, and Dutchman’s Breeches, are only in bloom for a short period of time each spring. From week to week, the variety of blooming wildflowers is constantly changing so you never know what you may see.
Guided hikes last approximately one to one and a half hours and require proper footwear suitable for rugged terrain. There will be plenty of photo opportunities and visitors are reminded to stay on marked trails and to abide by the “leave no trace” principle while in the Niagara Glen.
Hikes will be starting from the Niagara Glen Nature Centre which will be open that day. The Niagara Glen Nature Centre is located at 3050 Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls, right across from the Whirlpool Public Golf Course.

5th ANNUAL EVAN’S RIDE
Sunday, May 26th, 2013
NEW EVENT LOCATION & ROUTE
J.W. Sheldrick Transport, 2942 Thompson Ave., Smithville

Evan’s Ride was started by Evan’s dad, Len Sheldrake, who wanted to start a local community event to recognize his son’s tremendous achievements in learning to ride his bike and to bring awareness to ASD.

This past September, Evan entered grade 11 at Beamsville District Secondary School – home to a great special needs program! Like so many people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Evan welcomes the chance to prove himself and his ride ~ Evan’s Ride ~ symbolizes the hope, love and opportunities for all people affected by ASD.

Every year, Evan leads off the Niagara Region Chapter event on our 22 km journey and completes at least half of the ride. All funds raised remain in our Niagara Region communities and support services and programs for children and families in need.

Please join Evan, his family and friends, on this safe and scenic 11km or 22km bicycle journey through the farmlands of the Niagara Region, while supporting our ongoing battle to understand Autism Spectrum Disorder.
